Our Mission
At the Texas Behavioral Health Foundation, our mission is to transform the landscape of mental health care in Texas. We are committed to advocating for underserved populations, providing them with the tools and support necessary to navigate their mental health journeys. Our dedicated team works collaboratively with community leaders and organizations to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and ensure that everyone has access to the mental health care they need. Together, we can build a more inclusive and supportive environment for mental health in our communities.
The Challenge
Across Texas, access to mental health care remains out of reach for far too many individuals and families. Despite growing awareness of mental health needs, the state's behavioral health system continues to face significant challenges, including provider shortages, long wait times, inadequate insurance coverage, and limited access in rural and underserved communities. In many counties, finding a qualified mental health professional can require weeks of waiting or hours of travel, leaving people without the care they need when they need it most.
These challenges disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, including children, adolescents, low-income families, and residents of rural Texas. Research shows that access to effective mental health treatment is often determined by geography, income, and available resources rather than the severity of need. As a result, many Texans experiencing mental health crises turn to emergency rooms, schools, faith leaders, or community organizations for support because specialized care is unavailable or inaccessible.
The Texas Behavioral Health Foundation believes that access to quality mental health care should not depend on where someone lives, how much they earn, or what language they speak. Every Texan deserves timely, affordable, and compassionate behavioral health services. By supporting innovative programs, expanding community resources, and removing barriers to care, we work to build a future where mental health support is available to all who need it.
